Many of this dark themes while scandalous when he wrote about them or today almost mundane.
Separate topic-does anyone actually work in the world of Dostoyevsky? Do they spend hours and hours doing what almost all of us do? I think Dostoyevsky is the darkest, scariest writer I’ve adolexcentul read.

Arkadi had little knowledge of his parents in his early years, he came to live with them in St. Petersburg, his vat in his pocket. The title is particularly well chosen adolescenntul the hero is really a “typical” dodtoievski. In revolt and opposition, wanting to settle accounts, proud, susceptible, but at the same time not at all sure, and therefore speaking loudly, at the most unseemly, pretentious adolescenyul naive moments.
It is at times quite unbearable. The plot is almost more complicated than in the other novels of the author, and we must cling a little so as not to get lost, and find ourselves in all the characters.
We find, as in other books by the author, the metaphysical questioning, the notions of freedom, of evil The work contains many biographical aspects, for example scenes of game roulette. Probably less striking than other books of the author, at least for me, it is still a very engaging and very dense reading.
Perhaps the choice of writing the novel in the form of a newspaper written by the young man was not the best possible angle, as it is a bit repetitive at times, and the young man is not from an exceptional clarity and penetration. Some complex aspects of thought of Dostoevsky had more difficulty to express by his pen. View all 8 dostoiveski.
View all 24 comments. What can I say about his understanding of human mind that haven’t been said dostoiwvski
So, I will just stick to a brief review on this book and my experience reading it. Firstly, ‘The Adolescent’ should not be compared to Dostoyevsky’s other major works. This novel does not have the grand setting like ‘Brothers Karamazov’ nor d 4. This novel does not have the grand setting like ‘Brothers Karamazov’ nor does it have high philosophical depth like ‘The Idiot’ or ‘Crime and Punishment’, but for me it was equally enjoyable.
The novel starts with an adolescent confessing his story and how he changed as a person. Dostoyevsky introduces us to Arkady Dolgoruky’s “idea” and how he wants to weave his life around it. But then, like many adolescents these ideas are built on high impulses and whims, and thereby he slowly loses his determination to take it forward.
This is followed by a series of very interesting scenes and conversations which I would not reveal as it might spoil the experience of anyone who is willing to read this book in future. For me Dostoyevsky and his stories are very important; for life and for living. Reading his works always gives me assurance that I am being understood. And I always felt that the need of being understood is more powerful than the need of being loved.
Following are few lines from “The Adolescent”: It is like certain ‘painful’ scenes in the works of great writers that throughout our lives hurt us when we think of them-for instance, the final monologue of Shakespeare’s Othello, Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin at the feet of Tatyana, or the scene is Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables where the escaped convict meets the little girl.

While not in the upper pantheon of Dostoyevsky novels, the Adolescent is nonetheless a literary tour de force loaded with political intrigue and some of the most enigmatic characters in his work. But it is not bad by any means – compared to the rest of his books, a merely interesting book can seem awful in comparison. The plot concerns an adolescent although the translation is still up for a fine-tuned debate who is illegitimate and something about a mysterious letter.
It is not exactly full of the grand philosophy and debate that Dostoyevsky employs, but what he does This book has been overlooked to an astonishing degree, even by fans of Dostoyevsky, and perhaps I could understand why. It is not exactly full of the grand philosophy and debate that Dostoyevsky employs, but what he does have is still as good as ever.
The narrator’s voice is surprisingly convincing. The ambition and soul of a ninteteen year old is well done. Worth reading if you’re already a fan of Dosty. I would not recommend this to people who are not used to him yet, though. Most of dostoievs,i stuff you expect from Dostoevsky is here. As usual we have a build-up in Part 1, where we get acquainted with the story, the characters and so on, and we ddostoievski slowly brought into it all. Naturally there is a really climactic last part to the book, and the final 50 or so pages are very intense!
There is one big difference between this novel and most of Dostoevsky’s other novels, except for Notes From Underground, in that it uses a first-person narrative. Adolecentul is interesting, and it’s wo Most of the stuff you expect from Dostoevsky is here. This is interesting, and it’s worth noting that the main character in The Adolescent – Arkady Dolgoruky – has, at least initially, certain traits similar to this ‘underground man,’ as pointed out by Richard Pevear in the introduction.
Another thing that struck me about the novel is that the familiar coating in philosophy, so common in Dostoevsky, is largely missing. At least, it is far from as prevalent as in his other works. For the most part this is a fairly straightforward tale about family drama and, well, other kinds of drama that occurs in Arkady’s life, told my Arkady himself, as he, ‘unable to restrain’ himself, sits down to record ‘this history of my first steps on life’s career, though I could have done as well without it.

It’s a highly enjoyable and really quite riveting read throughout, and one that fans of Dostoevsky should not miss. There are a number of great scenes in this book, and wonderful portrayals of humans — as is to be expected in Dostoevsky. The parts with Arkady and his grandfather are especially memorable. Towards the very end of college I became involved with Janny, a precocious first year student.
I was very impressed with her from the outset. Not only was she exceptionally well read, but she could read in Dutch and German as well as English, her family having moved often owing to her father’s work as a government mathematician. The relationship continued even upon my graduation and move to seminary in New York City.
